For many people, there is nothing worse than attempting to prepare a meal only to realize one of the ingredients has expired. While some foods can last through their sell by date, most tend to give up on it the moment the date on the item is passed. However, apparently people don’t feel the same way about medicine, as a woman went viral recently after sharing a photo of a Vicks VapoRub jar from the 1980s she still uses.

Heather Chacon was recently taking care of her sick child, when he mother recommended she tried a remedy she often used when Chacon was younger; Vicks VapoRub. However, instead of going to the store for a new jar, Chacon’s mother gave her the same jar she had been using since the 1980s. “My son has been sick (not Covid) and shout out to my mom, who loaned us the SAME pot of Vicks she used to use on me growing up. Expiration day 1-87," Chacon captioned her now viral photo.

While some online were shocked she actually used the expired medicine, many online took the opportunity to share photos of their own medicine cabinets filled with expired items. Luckily, the Vicks VapoRub helped, according to Fox News. Still, hopefully she decides to eventually get a new bottle.
