Art Weston of Union, Kentucky says he’s had plenty of battle with alligator gars before. None of them have quite measured up to one he encountered in East Texas though. And we say "measured" literally.
While fishing at Sam Rayburn Lake, Weston caught an enormous 8-foot, 4-inch alligator gar weighing in at 283 pounds! And yes, that is absolutely a world record as it weighs four pounds more than the current IGFA All-Tackle world record that dates back nearly 72 years.
According to MySA, experts believe Weston’s fish could be 80-100 years old!
Weston’s paperwork for a new All-Tackle world record has been submitted for review by the IGFA records committee and could be certified as early as November.
This isn’t Weston’s first massive alligator gar caught in Texas, either. Back in April, he reeled in 251 pounder while fishing on the Trinity River.
