For the first time since 2006, Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante have teamed up to release a Red Hot Chili Peppers song as the group returns with their new track “Black Summer.”
“Black Summer” is an Audacy World Premiere, meaning you can hear it all day long on your favorite Audacy Alternative and Rock stations.
“Black Summer” is the first single from the Chili Peppers’ upcoming 12th studio album UNLIMITED LOVE, which is due for an April 1 release. It’s a milestone moment for the band as it marks their first album with guitarist John Frusciante since their 2006 record Stadium Arcadium and the band’s first album since 2016’s The Getaway.
“Our only goal is to get lost in the music,” the band said in a statement. “We (John, Anthony, Chad and Flea) spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make the best album we could. Our antennae attuned to the divine cosmos, we were just so damn grateful for the opportunity to be in a room together, and, once again, try to get better. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely, and arranging the fruit of those jams with great care and purpose. The sounds, rhythms, vibrations, words and melodies had us enrapt.”

Fans will get the opportunity to hear songs from UNLIMITED LOVE in person this summer as the Red Hot Chili Peppers have a massive tour scheduled. If their statement is indicative of anything, it’s that this summer’s shows will be ones you won’t want to miss. “We yearn to shine a light in the world, to uplift, connect, and bring people together,” their statement continued.
“Each of the songs on our new album UNLIMITED LOVE, is a facet of us, reflecting our view of the universe. This is our life’s mission. We work, focus, and prepare, so that when the biggest wave comes, we are ready to ride it. The ocean has gifted us a mighty wave and this record is the ride that is the sum of our lives. Thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy it.”
Kiedis, Smith, Frusciante, and Flea signed off their statement with an appropriate message, “ROCK OUT MOTHERF*****S!”
