Rumors have circulated for weeks that Matty Healy and Taylor Swift are the new lovebirds in the music world. Both Taylor and The 1975 frontman have rabid fan bases that are extremely opinionated about their dating lives, and they’re still wrapping their heads around the news. There’s also conflicting information on just how this came to pass, but before we start fantasizing about the awesome breakup songs that will inevitably follow their romance, let’s back it up: when did they actually start dating? It may be sooner than we thought.
Matty Healy joined Klein.Ally.Show on KROQ in November 2022 for an intimate performance and exclusive interview where he revealed that he worked closely with Taylor on the Midnights album, which released in October 2022. He said they worked on “versions” of Midnights that were ultimately never released. That would put them together far before Taylor’s reported breakup with Joe Alwyn in April 2023, though some reports claim they broke up as early as February. See what Matty said to Klein & Ally below:
This begs the question: Did Taylor and Joe break up last year and we’re all just late to the party? Or were Taylor and Matty collaborating on more than just music when she was still in a committed relationship? And more importantly, when will we hear these mysterious Matty/Taylor collabs?! Only time will tell.
