The Padres turned some heads prior to the start of Tuesday's game when they put Jake Cronenworth on the 7-day IL with concussion symptoms, recalled Sung-Mun Song from Triple-A, and immediately inserted him into the starting lineup in a revamped batting order that saw Jackson Merrill bat leadoff, Manny Machado bat second and Fernando Tatis Jr. bat fifth. The Giants jumped out in front on Casey Schmitt's 2-run homer in the 1st inning, his second long ball in as many games in this series. The Padres trailed 4-1 in the 4th inning, and that's when the Padres did the majority of their damage. After a single and a double from Gavin Sheets and Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts brought home a run with a ground out to third base. Nick Castellanos followed with an RBI-single to center field, making it a 4-3 game. Luis Campusano was then hit by a pitch, bringing Sung-Mun Song to the plate with two outs and men on 1st and 2nd. Song blasted a 2-run double to the opposite field to bring home both runners and put the Padres on top 5-4. Jackson Merrill then drove in Song with a single to center, making it a 6-4 game. The Padres added insurance runs in both the 5th and 6th innings, and then two more in the 8th inning, as the Padres cruised to a 10-5 win. Matt Waldron will start Wednesday's rubber match.
