Through a tumultuous and turbulent race in Las Vegas Sunday, Alex Bowman was able to come out on top. Bowman was able to avoid trouble that many drivers had during the Pennzoil 400. He held off the hard-charging Kyle Larson after an overtime restart, to earn the 7th cup win of his career and his first of 2022. A late gamble by his crew chief paid off big and propelled Bowman to victory lane. His crew chief Greg Ives decided to just take two tires instead of four on Bowman's last pit stop.
Kyle Larson who won in Fontana last week, was right on Bowman's heels but was unable to overtake him down the stretch. Ross Chastain had a career day as he finished 3rd and led 83 laps on Sunday. His Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez, who's had a top 10 finish at Fontana, wasn't so lucky on Sunday. Suarez was sent into the wall when Chase Briscoe got sideways on lap 92, Suarez ended up finishing 37th.
Kyle Busch had an incredible effort Sunday. After he cut a tire in practice Saturday, Busch was forced to use a "parts" or backup car in Sunday's race. He started near the back of the field, but was able to battle back. Busch led 49 laps on Sunday and finished in the top 5, taking 4th. Aric Almirola had another impressive run finishing 6th, he now has top 10 finishes in every race on the young season.
Sunday's race was another one full of cautions and collisions. Austin Cindric, Ryan Blaney, Brad "Killer" Keselowski, Chase Briscoe, Daniel Suarez, Justin Haley, Tyler Reddick and pole winner Chris Bell all were involved in wrecks during the 400. Sunday's 12 cautions are the most at Las Vegas since 2018. That makes a total of 31 cautions in the season's first three races, which is the most in a season's 1st 3 runs since 2011.
