Braves would have to sacrifice a lot to get Shohei Ohtani to Atlanta

The Morning Shift explains why making Shohei a Brave would cost more than just a big contract

MLB Insider for MLB Network, Jon Morosi, reported Monday that someone told him that Shohei Ohtani “would be very intrigued by playing for the Atlanta Braves.” Now, of course it would be great to have Ohtani in Atlanta, but it would cost more than just signing him to a big deal. The Morning Shift broke down what all would probably happen if Ohtani signed with the Braves.

Bringing Ohtani to Atlanta would be amazing for the city and the entire state at that, but it would it mean signing him to a big deal, probably trading Marcell Ozuna, 2024 definitely being Max Fried’s last season with the Braves, the back end of the pitching rotation being makeshift next season because Ohtani can’t pitch again until 2024, and probably losing Ozzie Albies once his contract expires in 2027.

Is all that worth having the unicorn that is Shohei Ohtani? That will be for Alex Anthopoulos, Derrick Schiller, and Liberty Media to decide.
