The season came to a close for South Carolina baseball after they fell short over the weekend. The Gamecocks opened their appearance in the Raleigh Regional this past Friday with a 4-3 win over James Madison in 10 innings.
They followed that with a 6-4 loss to the host team NC State. The Gamecocks tied it at 4 in the 7th before allowing a run in both the home half of the 7th and 8th innings.
South Carolina then fell in shutout fashion 2-0 to James Madison on Sunday. Donovan Burke and Casey Smith combined to throw a five hit shutout for JMU while striking out 8 Gamecock batters combined.
The program has not made a CWS appearance since 2012 and won a regional just twice under Head Coach Mark Kingston, who took over in 2018.
In the fallout of South Carolina Baseball this weekend Athletic Director and former Baseball Coach Ray Tanner announced that Coach Mark Kingston will not return.
Former Clemson Head Coach Monte Lee who's now the Associate Head Coach at South Carolina will serve as Interim Head Coach while a search is conducted.
