Giannis Antetokounmpo crushed the dreams of many fan bases on Tuesday when he announced that he will not become a free agent, and instead signed a record $228 million extension with the Milwaukee Bucks over the next five years.

Knicks fans did not seem to be one of them, though.

Every year, Knicks fans get their hopes up that a big free agent will sign in New York. With a new team president in Leon Rose and tons of cap space cleared out, it seemed inevitable that Antetokounmpo to the Knicks rumors would circulate throughout the season, regardless if there was any substance to it.

But with the Greek Freak’s new deal keeping him in Milwaukee for the next five years, many Knicks fans let out a collective sigh of relief on social media when they heard the news.

In fact, most NBA fans in general seemed to be happy for Antetokounmpo, who remains with a small market team in the Bucks and did not go the route of forming a super team like LeBron James and Kevin Durant were often criticized for doing.
