The Hawks and John Collins missed Monday's deadline to agree to a contract extension and now he will become a restricted free agent at the end of the upcoming season.

It's expected that Collins is looking for a max or near-max deal and he's going to have the 2020-2021 season to prove to Lloyd Pierce, Travis Schlenk, and Hawks ownership that he deserves it.

Atlanta Hawks General Manager Travis Schlenk joined John and Hugh on Tuesday morning and spoke about the inability to come to an agreement with Collins and how that doesn't change anything in regards to their future plans.

“We had a lot of discussions with John, wanted to try to get something done, but couldn’t come to a number,” says Schlenk. “John has an opportunity to go out and have another great year, become a restricted free agent, and that doesn’t change the fact that we want him to be part of the organization moving forward.”
