Friday night saw the kickoff of the 2025 High School Football season in the Upstate. In a game heard on The Fan Upstate 97.1 and 97.7 FM, the Byrnes Rebels downed T.L. Hanna 30-10. It was the 1st home game for Byrnes since 2023.
The Rebels were impressive in their newly renovated stadium. Tre Segarra carried the workload in the run game, he had 126 yards and 2 TD's. Byrnes controlled the game and clock possessing the ball for over 60 minutes.
Byrnes will host Irmo August 29th. Irmo knocked off defending 3A State Champs Oceanside Collegiate 35-28. The Irmo program is 25-3 in the last two seasons.
A couple of results that stood out to me and others around High School Football. Woodruff knocked defending 2A State Champs, Clinton 21-13. Clinton has had double digit wins in each of the last 4 years. Woodruff has now beat them two years in a row.
Also, Seneca went on the road and beat Powdersville 56-35. The Bobcats racked up nearly 600 yards of total offense. RB Amari Verner had 183 yards and 4 TD's on the night. QB Gavin Thoma was 12 of 15 for over 250 yards and 3 TD's. Seneca hosts Woodmont August 29th.
Daniel had their 1st game after scandal rocked the program over the summer. Up until this week, all the talk has been about a viral video of a serious fight within the program.
Coach Chris Stone was suspended earlier this month and then was cleared to return. He was able to a get a statement win in his debut, as the Lions dismantled Chapman, 43-0.

Gaffney fell at the Reservation 28-21 to Charlotte Independence.
Easley handled Pickens 56-34.
Wren routed Palmetto 42-0
Mountain View Prep 34-0 over Atlantic Collegiate
Defending 1A State Champs Abbeville handled Southside Christian 42-0
Spartanburg was handled at home by defending 5A Division 2 State Champs Northwestern Rock Hill 39-7.
