At the forefront is the e-SKYACTIV G 3.3L INLINE 6 TURBO lineup, with the Turbo S variant boasting an impressive 340 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque on recommended premium fuel (319 HP on regular fuel). The Turbo variant delivers a robust 280 HP and 332 lb-ft on any fuel. Notably, all Turbo models are equipped with M-Hybrid Boost. For our "Week in the Seat," we drove the CX90 SKYACTIV PHEV w/Premium Plus package, integrating a 100kW electric motor with a 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-4 engine. This powertrain is supported by a substantial 17.8 kWh battery pack, resulting in a combined output of 323 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque on recommended premium fuel (319 HP on regular fuel). The PHEV variant excels not only in performance but also in environmental responsibility, offering an electric-only range of 26 miles and a combined gas engine efficiency of 25 MPG, along with an impressive 56 MPGe when considering electric and gas combined.
Driving dynamics are further enhanced by the 8-speed automatic transmission, featuring a compact planetary gear design with a wet clutch replacing the traditional torque converter. This design choice ensures more direct and efficient shifts, contributing to an overall smoother driving experience. Additionally, the transmission system allows for an increased tow rating of up to 5,000 lbs (3,500 lbs with PHEV) when the Mi-Drive Towing Mode is activated and genuine Mazda towing accessories are utilized.
