Sean “Diddy” Combs was given a 50-month federal prison sentence today after being convicted of 2 counts of violating the Mann Act that prohibits interstate transportation to engage in prostitution.
In addition to the prison time, Judge Arun Subramanian also imposed a $500,000 fine against Sean “Diddy” Combs, which is the maximum fine he can order.
The ruling brings closure to a months-long legal battle that exposed disturbing allegations of coercion, domestic abuse, and power.
The Trial: What the Jury Found
Combs faced multiple federal charges, but the core of the case focused on allegations that he arranged for women to travel across state lines to engage in drug-fueled sexual encounters, involving escorts and former romantic partners.
- After a two-month trial, the jury acquitted Combs of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
- He was found guilty on two counts of transportation for the purpose of prostitution, under the Mann Act.
- The maximum penalty for those convictions was steep up to 20 years.
- The jury’s partial acquittal drew mixed reactions; while some saw it as a blow to the government’s broader criminal enterprise theory, the convictions alone still carried enormous consequences.
Sentencing: A 50-Month Term
Despite arguments from Combs’s defense team seeking leniency, citing his character, philanthropy, and time already served, Judge Subramanian delivered a sentence of 50 months in prison.
In imposing that term, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the crimes and the need to hold someone in Diddy’s position accountable.
“A substantial sentence must be given to send a message to abusers and victims alike that abuse against women is met with real accountability,” said Judge Subramanian.
Diddy himself addressed the judge today, pleading his case and attempting to show that he is a changed man.
In his closing statements, the judge told Diddy “You will have a chance to show your children in the world. What real accountability and healing look like.”
What It Means Going Forward
- Diddy is already in federal custody, he’s been detained since his arrest in September 2024 after bail was repeatedly denied.
- The 50-month sentence significantly cuts short the 11+ years prosecutors had sought.
- Diddy will reportedly get credit for the time he’s already served.
