NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A trio of great white sharks are being tracked in the Atlantic Ocean off of Long Island and the Jersey Shore.
Martha, a seven-foot great white shark that weighs in at 184 pounds, was last pinged Saturday near Asbury Park, according to OCEARCH.
An eight-foot, 338-pound juvenile known as Charlotte made her way past Long Island back in late May and was pinged on Tuesday morning off Cape Cod.
Another shark, a nearly 7-foot juvenile known as Monomoy, was also pinged near Montauk on May 27.
Great whites have made their way through the area before.
In 2019, a 10-footer named Miss May was pinged off Cape May and Cabot, a 9'8" great white, was tracked in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut on its way up north to Cape Cod.
Newsday says many sharks are born in the New York Bight, the stretch of ocean between Long Island and New Jersey.
The sharks’ movements can be tracked on the OCEARCH website.
Last summer, bull shark sightings prompted the closure of several beaches on Long Island for three consecutive days.
