US Postal Service honors Yankees legend Yogi Berra with Forever stamp

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New York Yankees fans can add a Yogi Berra stamp to their collections.

The U.S. Postal Service unveiled the Forever stamp honoring the MLB legend during a ceremony at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls, New Jersey on Thursday.

“We hope this stamp will serve as a reminder of Yogi’s larger than life personality — both on and off the field,” said Ron A. Bloom, chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors.

“The Berra family wishes to thank the U.S. Postal Service for honoring our father with a Forever stamp for his prowess as a baseball icon who demonstrated the right way to earn the respect of family, friends, competitors and people everywhere,” the baseball legend's family said in a statement.

The stamp is being sold at post office locations nationwide and online at usps.com/yogiberrastamp.

Berra, an 18-time MLB All-Star, died six years ago at the age of 90.

Berra won three American League MVP awards and played in the World Series championship in 14 of his 18 seasons with the Yankees.

After retiring as a player in 1963, he launched a second career as a manager and coach.

Berra, was known for his quotable "Yogi-isms," was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
