Sal: Joe Schoen's biggest mistake was Daniel Jones contract
As Sal and Jerry discussed the premiere of Offseason Hard Knocks with the Giants, Sal declared that the Daniel Jones contract was the biggest mistake of the current regime to date.
“It’s all about Daniel Jones. I think that is Joe Schoen’s biggest mistake, and he’s already made it. He’s already signed Daniel Jones to that contract,” Sal said. “The idea that these guys would be here three years and still looking at the quarterback and haven’t picked their own guy? That’s a major problem.”
The Giants could get out of the Jones contract after this season, but Sal says the damage was done in giving Jones that kind of money, even after he had a career year and won a playoff game in Minnesota in Brian Daboll’s first season. The same issues still remain, from the injury concerns to the lack of passing touchdowns, and to pay that kind of player $40 million was a big miss by Joe Schoen and company.
“They are all in this year on finding out what Daniel Jones is,” Sal said. “I don’t know how many times you have to see it.
“They didn’t have to give him $40 million a year. They could have figured out where they could franchise tag him and doing something with Saquon. Turns out, they made a mistake. Even Saquon got a nice deal from Philadelphia…but you can’t tell me you wouldn’t want Saquon as a part of this team.”
