Tommy Lugauer wants Tommy DeVito to be Giants Week 1 starter
Tommy DeVito came on in relief of Drew Lock on Thursday night, and completed eight of 15 passes for 92 yards in the Giants’ preseason opener.
For Tommy Lugauer, he saw enough to declare Friday afternoon that he wants DeVito as the starting quarterback once the games start to count.
“Last night, I saw the Giants’ starting quarterback for Week 1, and his name is Tommy DeVito,” Loogy said. “Tommy DeVito has the support of the fans. He is, I think, the most well-liked guy by most of the fans. They want to see him succeed…I think he has the motivation. When he’s out there, the Giants move the football. I think he has a lot that we have not seen yet, a lot of untapped potential.”
Loogy felt DeVito showed an ability to move the football and, most importantly, win football games last season, when he became a sensation among the fanbase. Loogy believes the adoration from the fanbase, and his relatability, matters, and if you’re still not sold on Jones, who is coming off ACL surgery, why not give DeVito a chance to start the season?
“It doesn’t mean Jones can’t work his way back into the starter,” Loogy said. “I just think, right out of the gate - we don’t even know if Daniel Jones is truly fully healthy - Tommy DeVito to me looked like a guy last night and last year…I didn’t see anything last night that made me think Tommy DeVito can’t suit up and be the starter Week 1.”
