Boomer: Jalen Brunson should be first team All-NBA, Tom Thibodeau Coach of the Year
Boomer, back from a day off on Monday, opened Tuesday's show by singing the praises of the Knicks, who locked up the second seed and await the winner of the Sixers and Heat in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Specifically, Boomer said New York's star point guard and head coach should be recognized as the best in their respective positions when awards are announced in the coming weeks.
"If Jalen Brunson isn't first team All-NBA, I don't know who the hell is," Boomer said. "If Tom Thibodeau isn't Coach of the Year, I don't know who the hell is.
"Those two guys had fantastic seasons. Unexpected to be where they are…nobody expected the Knicks to get the number two seed…Jalen Brinson is the best point guard we've had since Walt Frazier. Maybe even better than Walt other than the fact that he hasn't won a championship yet."
Of course, it hasn't just been Thibodeau and Brunson, as Boomer says the Knicks' success is because their team-first identity, and everyone buying in to the concept of going all out every night to get a win, like they did on Sunday, when losing would have arguably meant a more favorable first-round matchup.
"I have nothing but respect for the way they played this game against the Bulls," Boomer said. "This has been a really good collection of guys. They seem to really like each other and love playing with each other."
