BT: Mets are 'better than I thought' thanks to quick turnaround, 'Mendoza effect'
The Mets have suddenly won seven of their last 10 games, clawing back to .500 after a disastrous 0-5 start to the season with a comeback win over the Pirates on Monday night.
BT, while he still doesn't see the Mets as a playoff team, says the squad deserves praise for the way they have fought back and erased a start to the year that had many feeling it was all over after just one week.
"I'm still not sure who the Mets really are, but I'll tell you this," BT said. "They're a little better than I thought."
BT says there is already some evidence of "the Mendoza effect," as first-year manager Carlos Mendoza has maintained a hold of the clubhouse after that 0-5 start and guided New York to multiple comebacks during their recent hot streak. For that, Mendoza and the Mets deserve a lot of credit.
"The Mets are already taking on the personality of their manager, which is the exact opposite of the personality they had a year ago," BT said. "I'm impressed right now. I gotta say, I'm impressed with the New York Mets.
"The team that I thought was gonna show up this season and just get punked from start to finish has already proven me wrong…I did not think they would dig themselves out of this."
