BT: Reality is Mets top duo of Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso isn't good enough
The Mets came away with a huge comeback win over the Braves on Monday, and while BT made sure to commend the team for fighting back, he doesn't see it meaning much, mainly because he doesn't believe the team's two stars are good enough to lead a winner.
"The problem is, it means nothing," BT said. "I hate that I've got to be the bearer of bad news with this. But it means nothing big picture because their two best players aren't good enough.
"When we get wrapped up in this season and you watch Judge and Soto, or Betts and Freeman, or Olson, Riley and Acuna…you're gonna be watching the Mets too often, and your star shortstop is 1-for-4 with two punchouts, and your start first baseman is not performing. That's the reality."
BT doesn't have much faith in Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor being the two stars of a winning team, as both have struggled to begin the season, and BT believes both finish with strong numbers, but don't get it done when the team needs it most.
"Alonso is gonna get his 40-something bombs, and Lindor will finish somewhere near 30/30," BT said. "But when it's time to go to battle…the two Mets superstars - and I use that term very loosely - they are not as good as the other tandem duos or trios in baseball. They're just not."
