Keith: Mets fans should be giving David Stearns his due

The Mets have won four in a row and have been surging since their 0-5 start, and Keith says it's time that the team's new architect gets his flowers for the roster he constructed in his first offseason.

"Let him cook," Keith said of David Stearns. "The team is actually pretty decent.

"Nobody is talking about Rhys Hoskins anymore or how dead they looked, and Lindor is terrible and you have to trade Pete Alonso."

Luis Severino pitched his best outing of the season in Wednesday's win, while the bullpen continued to look light years better than the 2023 relief core. Keith says that is a result of shrewd, under-the-radar additions from Stearns, who many criticized after a Mets offseason that some saw as underwhelming for the Steve Cohen Mets.

"Everyone wants to talk about Severino last year," Keith said. "Last year is done.

"I feel like this team, the core of this team, is more like the 2022 Mets."

Stearns also hired Carlos Mendoza to replace Buck Showalter, which Keith says is a move that should be applauded given how the Mets have gotten off the mat and turned the season around already.

"You can obviously see he's managing," Keith said. "You can actually see his impact."
