Keith: Struggling Mets 'might as well' blow it up at trade deadline
Steve Cohen opened some eyes among Mets fans on Wednesday night when he posted, then deleted, a reply to a Mets fan account saying that a potential "blowing up" of the roster would be "all in the future, not much we can do until the trade deadline."
Keith says it would be best for the Mets owner to stop interacting with fans on social media, especially as the team is struggling and the World Series that Cohen promised when he bought the team seems as far away as it did when he took over.
"You have a tortured fanbase that's in an era where you told them they'd win a World Series," Keith said. "You have a tortured fanbase that's in an era where they thought your money was gonna buy them a chip, that you were gonna get the best players every year. You were gonna get Aaron Judge. You were gonna get Ohtani. You were gonna get Yamamoto.
"Last year, you said you weren't gonna put a team out there that embarrasses us…just get off the Twitter, bro."
A caller suggested the Mets should indeed blow it up this summer, including trading Pete Alonso, and Keith wasn't opposed.
"I think they might as well," Keith said. "I don't want to be premature with this, but you did start over by kicking Buck Showalter to the curb…Billy Eppler gets fired. It's the David Stearns era, so why not start from scratch?"
