Keith: Mets OMG celebrations are fun until it is turned against you
A's reliever Austin Adams broke out the Jose Iglesias OMG celebration after striking out Francisco Alvarez to end the inning on Tuesday night in a 9-4 win for Oakland, a move that Edwin Diaz made clear that he didn't like when asked about it after the game.
But Keith McPherson says, while the celebration and rally cry has been a fun part of the Mets season, it turns into ammo for opponents when things aren't going well for New York.
"When you have a dance, which turns into a celebration and an OMG sign, it was all good a couple months ago," Keith said. "But you gotta go out there and perform, or else those things will be turned against you.
"You get a guy like Austin Adams….he cannot wait for his moment. Athletes are competitive and obsessive, and they don't forget. He's mad. He was pissed off.
Iglesias performed his hit song on Monday night during the team's off day, which Keith says also can look a lot different when things aren't going well, which is the current case for the Mets, who have now dropped four in a row as the offense continues to slump.
"I get it, OMG is a number one hit and Jose Iglesias is having a great year," Keith said. "But that could be a bad look."
