Sal after hearing Scott Boras' comments on Juan Soto: 'He's coming to the Mets'
After listening to Scott Boras talk to reporters about Juan Soto's pending free agency, his place among the 100 best players to ever take the field, and the "billions" that he helps a team make, Sal is even more convinced of the belief he has held since Soto was acquired by the Yankees.
The superstar will be in Queens in 2025.
"He's coming to the Mets," Sal said. "I'm thinking he's taking the most money. How can you not hear that or read that and not think that, clearly, Boras and Soto are going to want the most money? Which means he's going to the Mets.
"Do you believe after reading that, that Boras and Soto want the most money? The evidence has been there…the second question: do you think Steve Cohen will be outbid?"
Sal doesn't believe anyone will offer more than Cohen, especially as the Mets slump their way towards the bottom of the standings in what is shaping up to be a second straight season of disappointment. A major splash like Soto would change the mood of the fanbase in a big way, and if Soto and Boras are looking for the biggest payday, Sal is convinced it will come from the Mets.
"If I just go based off of this agent and this client wanting the most money, and I firmly believe, based on many factors, that Steve Cohen will have the highest offer, then how do I now think that he's going to the Mets?" Sal said.
