Boomer still enjoyed Rangers run, but says weaker Eastern Conference led to special regular season

Boomer surprised many on the Morning Show crew when he opened Monday’s show by expressing his gratitude for the Rangers season that once again ended short of a Stanley Cup Final appearance.

“Last year I was pissed. This year, not so much,” Boomer said, comparing how he is feeling now to last year, when the Blueshirts fell in game seven in their first-round series against the hated Devils.

Boomer talked about the great time he had as a Ranger fan this year, and while it didn’t end the way he hoped, he enjoyed the ride. Still, he believes changes might be needed to make the next step, and that the season, while thrilling along the way, may have made the Rangers look better than they were.

“Chris Drury has a lot of things to sort out and figure out,” Boomer said. “If you look at the season, the Eastern Conference was not nearly as competitive as the West…if you had a good goalie and a good, solid power play and penalty kill, which the Rangers had, you could do what the Rangers did in terms of points and wins.

“This is one of the greatest Rangers regular season, if not the greatest Rangers regular season ever, simply because I don’t think the East was all that good from top to bottom.”
