Evan began Monday’s show by declaring that the Rangers stars simply can’t get it done in the playoffs, and now that year three of this core is over, it’s time to contemplate moving on and shaking things up.
But Morash pushed back on that idea, and says it’s not fair to say that this core is simply a losing one that will never get over the hump.
“I think everybody needs to blame down and stop blaming the core of this team, and stop panicking,” Morash said. “It’s only the third year with this version of the Rangers. To say that they can’t win?
“This is not the same thing as losing to the Devils in the first round. They beat the Cup favorite in the second round. They just ran into the worst possible matchup for them, and still came a crossbar and a bad penalty away from a game seven. Can we all take a breath?”
Despite that optimism about the core of the Rangers, when it comes to this season, Morash says it is a missed opportunity at ending New York City’s title drought, one unlike anything we’ve seen in decades.
“This is the lowest I have felt as a sports fan since the Yankees lost to the Red Sox in 2004,” Morash said. “As you get older, you start to realize how hard it is to win a championship…it’s not that this team won’t be back, but it’s what it took to get here after the last two years. They were that good…that loaded, and it still wasn’t good enough at the bitter end.
“This 2023-24 Ranger team is the greatest missed opportunity at a championship that this city has seen in 20 years. I don’t know how anybody disagrees with that or denies it.”
