C-Mac: No way Aaron Boone isn’t critical of his players behind closed doors
As the Yankees continue to scuffle, criticism mounts in regards to Aaron Boone, particularly his relentless positivity when discussing his players to the media.
Some want to see Boone call out his guys more often when it’s warranted, but C-Mac isn’t buying that such a display of accountability never happens. It likely is just done behind closed doors.
“Honestly, watch the guy,” C-Mac said. “Publicly, it’s on umpires and not outwardly shown to the players. That’s absolutely accurate. I can’t say otherwise. But they’ll be down seven runs, and if he doesn’t like a call on a pitch, he’s pissed off…there’s no way that guy isn’t pissed off about the way his team plays at times in the clubhouse.
“There’s no way none of that passion and fire translates itself onto the players in some way privately. He won’t do it publicly, no matter how much you want him to.”
Boone leads the league in managerial ejections since he became Yankee manager, and C-Mac doesn’t see how that level of fire can just be turned off when the team is in the kind of funk that it is in right now.
“What do you expect him to say? Should he come out and say Nestor was just awful today, and that he’s been terrible on the road, they don’t know what they’re gonna do, but it’s been a freaking disaster?” C-Mac said. “Is that what you want him to do?
“You want to hear what you want to hear…I’m not saying Boone isn’t at fault. If Boone ends up getting fired for all of this, that’s fine with me. It’s about the losing. It’s about the stuff on the field.”
