C-Mac: Carlos Rodon deserves Luis Gil-like appreciation from Yankee fans

Carlos Rodon flirted with a no-hitter on Wednesday night, ultimately finishing with six innings of two-run ball while striking out nine and walking none.

The stellar outing dropped his season ERA to 3.08, and offered C-Mac another opportunity to remind Yankee fans that the lefty should be hearing loud appreciation from the fanbase given the bounceback season he is currently enjoying.

“What Carlos Rodon is doing - last year could not have gone any worse,” C-Mac said. “And he’s been unbelievable.”

Rodon, in his first year after signing a $162 million deal, missed a large chunk of the season due to injury, and posted an ERA of nearly 7.00 when he was healthy. He blew kisses at angry Yankee fans and shunned his pitching coach during an early mound visit. This year has been the complete opposite, and C-Mac says Rodon’s dedication to get in shape and change the narrative around him, especially when many thought he would be one of the biggest X-factors on the team this year, deserves a round of applause.

“He came into this year in much better shape,” C-Mac said. “I had a lot of doubts heading into the year…it was a mentally taxing season for Carlos Rodon last year.

“Carlos Rodon right now is pitching much like Luis Gil - not quite as dominant - but as we wait for the return of the ace, Gerrit Cole…yes, Luis Gil deserves the praise. He has stepped in and filled that role. But we have seen performances up and down this team, and it starts with Carlos Rodon.”
