Gio: Yankees/Dodgers series is going to be epic, appointment television
The Yankees begin a series with the punching bag Twins on Tuesday night, but many are already looking ahead to the next series, when the mighty Dodgers come to the Bronx for a three-game weekend set.
As that series approaches, Gio says it will be one of those anomalies where regular season baseball becomes must-see TV.
“We talk about regular season baseball, hockey, NBA, and how they have struggles, especially in this day and age of attention spans and long seasons,” Gio said. “But there are moments that come up during these regular seasons that are important. But when you talk about the Yankees and Dodgers coming up this weekend, that’s a big one.
“There are moments that people will flock to the ballpark. What you have with the Yankees and Dodgers this weekend, that’s certainly one of those moments.”
Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani will all be under the lights in Yankee Stadium this weekend, and Gio will be locked in like many others, which is not something baseball can lean on much in early June.
“This series coming up against LA, especially with other things coming to a close…it’s time for [the Yankees] to be on full-blown display this weekend,” Gio said.
