Keith doesn't have faith in Yankees bullpen: 'There's too much bad'
The Yankees held on to take Sunday’s rubber match against the Rangers and move back into a tie with the Orioles atop the AL East.
It certainly didn’t come easy, as an 8-3 lead turned into an 8-7 nail-biter after Mark Leiter Jr. and Clay Holmes both didn’t have their best stuff coming on in relief of Marcus Stroman.
The bullpen woes came one day after Luke Weaver and Michael Tonkin were beat up on during Saturday’s loss, worsening bullpen concerns for Keith McPherson.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have faith in them,” Keith said. “There’s some good, but there’s too much bad.
“We’re gonna need a lot of luck. We’re gonna need a lot of things to go right.”
Every team needs some luck in the playoffs if they are to win a World Series, but Keith worries that these Yankees might need too much to go their way to overcome the questions throughout the pitching staff, particularly the absence of relievers that can be counted on for true shutdown innings against quality lineups.
“The lineup is fine now. The lineup is fixed,” Keith said. “But you’re worried about the bullpen, and you’re worried about the rotation.”
