Keith not a fan of Aaron Boone's reasoning for moving Anthony Volpe to leadoff spot
Anthony Volpe was moved up to the leadoff spot on Wednesday night, and went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks to continue his productive start to the season.
Volpe moving to the leadoff spot was only a matter of time given his red-hot start, but Keith didn’t want it to happen in the way it did, with Aaron Boone noting that the Yanks wanted to get the struggling Gleyber Torres going by moving him down in the lineup.
“I just wanted to see it keep going. This guy was batting at an All-Star level,” Keith said. “I wanted to see him continue to perform batting sixth or seventh in the bottom half of the lineup.
“Give it a month. They couldn’t even give it a month. They gave it three series.”
Torres moving down in the order didn’t result in an awakening at the plate, though it was just for one game, and Keith would have liked to have kept things status quo while the Yanks were winning ballgames.
“The fact that Boone said they did this and it wasn’t as much about Volpe’s success…instead they said it was to get Gleyber Torres going,” Keith said. “He didn’t get going.”
