Sal: Dodgers series proved that Giancarlo Stanton can't be trusted to hit good pitching
After watching the Yankees battle the Dodgers for three games in the Bronx, Sal came away convinced that the Bombers don’t need to rely on Juan Soto to win a World Series in 2024, thanks to Aaron Judge leading the way.
But Sal also came away with another realization that didn’t favor the Yanks lineup, as he now feels convinced that Giancarlo Stanton cannot be relied upon anymore.
“The guy can’t hit good pitching. I don’t care what he did in the postseason historically,” Sal said. “To me, that’s the aberration. Maybe because teams were pitching to Giancarlo Stanton and letting him beat them.”
The 34-year-old had a brutal series against Los Angeles, going hitless in 14 at-bats while striking out seven times. The former MVP still has a .746 OPS with 15 home runs in a season where he has been able to stay healthy so far, but Sal believes the Yankees will have to go in another direction come October, when the team will face more consistently good pitching. sure, Stanton holds a very impressive .963 OPS with 11 home runs in 96 career playoff at-bats, but Sal would no longer trust him to get the job don’t in big spots.
“He’s not a good hitter,” Sal said. “I’m sorry.”
