LANSING (WWJ) -- Results of a new poll indicate about half of Michigan residents are unhappy with the job performance of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

WWJ's Mike Campbell reports that the poll conducted in May shows a 50% approval rating for the governor, which is down eight points from 58% in February.

Meanwhile, Whitmer's disapproval rating has gone up from 38% to 40%.

The results follow a particularly turbulent couple of months for the Michigan governor, who seemed to be followed by scandal and backlash throughout the spring.

The latest poll of 600 registered voters was conducted May 22 through May 26, and both polls have a margin of error of plus or minus 4%.
