
St. Patrick's Day may not be until next week on Friday, March 17, but Chicago is getting the party started early. The city will host two parades on Saturday and Sunday, and, of course, the Chicago River will be dyed an Irish green.
Saturday, March 11 and 10 a.m.: Chicago River turns green
As is tradition, the Chicago Plumbers Local 130 will dye the Chicago River green starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11. The best spots to watch all the action is near Upper Wacker Drive and North Columbus Drive, according to the union.
Saturday, March 11 at 12:30 p.m.: Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade begins
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade will start at Jackson Boulevard and Ida B. Wells Drive. Celebrators can start lining up at 11 a.m.
The parade will begin at East Balbo Drive and South Columbus Drive and will continue to move north on South Columbus Drive, and finally will end at South Columbus Drive and East Monroe Street.
All parade participants will need to go through security before entering the parade route. Coolers, alcohol, open beverages, camelbacks and personal water bottles will not be allowed.
Sunday, March 12 at noon: Chicago South Side Irish Parade begins
The Chicago South Side Irish Parade will start at noon at 103rd Street and Western Avenue in Beverly. The parade will then head south to 115th Street and Western Avenue. According to organizers, the parade will last two hours.
