CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago police officer shot and wounded while off-duty recently in the Beverly neighborhood is scheduled to go home this morning to a hero’s welcome.

Officer Danny Golden was left paralyzed after being shot right after he tried to break up a fight outside a bar in Beverly a few weeks ago. Today, he's to leave the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab and get a police escort home to the Southwest Side, with a slight detour past the home of the Chicago White Sox.

Supporters are expected to line the streets for when he passes by from Lake Shore Drive and the Dan Ryan, to rolling past Guaranteed Rate Field on 35th Street, back onto the Ryan, exiting I-57 at Halsted, down Vincennes to 103rd Street and 103rd Street to Pulaski. That’s where the family has requested the escort end.

Well-wishers are especially expected along 103rd Street in the Beverly and Mt. Greenwood neighborhoods. Ald. Matt O’Shea’s office was selling t-shirts and yard signs yesterday with all the proceeds going to Danny Golden.
