(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot is dismissing reports she was met with hostility while appearing in the South Side Irish Parade over the weekend.

Fox Chicago reports its cameras picked up booing as the mayor appeared in the Sunday event,  which returned after a two-year break following the COVID-19 pandemic. Afterward, observers saw her security team remove her from the area.

Reporters on Monday asked her about reports that some crowd members hurled objects and racial slurs.

That did not happen, the mayor said. She said she was whisked away because she had to join a second labor union in the parade on Western Avenue.

“People enjoy themselves and start enjoying themselves sometimes very early,” she said of the crowd. “So, there were some spirited comments, but I certainly didn’t experience any of the things you said, and my security team didn’t whisk me away. I went to a different part of the parade so I could march with another union.”
