For a lot of folks with a fear of flying, landing can be one of the worst parts of the experience. This story will do nothing to assuage those fears.
An American Airlines flight landing in DFW overran the runway due to a malfunction with its brakes!
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, American Flight 1632 coming from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport "experienced a braking malfunction" and proceeded to run into the Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of the runway.
The EMAS uses crushable material to help stop an aircraft that overruns it. Jet tires sink into the material and the aircraft decelerates while it rolls through it.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the emergency landing was successful and no injuries were reported. The 99 passengers and six crew members onboard deplaned and were bussed to the terminal.
