DFW has seen plenty of changes over the last few years, and it seems more improvements are on the way. It was announced recently that Dallas will rebrand the 440-acre area that includes the Galleria and the demolished Valley View mall as the International District. The city believes these changes will help the area become the city's cultural hub and attract new global businesses.
Back in 2011, the city of Dallas began discussing the estimated $4 billion redevelopment project to the area north of Interstate 635 between Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road. Two years later the plan was approved, but after slow progress on redevelopment since then, the city is finally ready to move forward with the project. According to Dallas Morning News, the changes will see the area turned into a mixed-use walkable neighborhood that include a 20-acre park, 10,000 new homes, restaurant, arts and entertainment venues, and eventually a DART light rail connection.
"We've lost so many corporate relocations, we've lost residents, and this is our chance to get some of that back. As well as the new people that are pouring into Dallas. It's really important that we embrace this area as a citywide opportunity," said council member Jaynie Schultz. Hopefully these changes continue to make DFW the best place to live.
