Last year many were shocked when it was announced a DFW company was planning to revive the woolly mammoth. While they have since heard plenty of ‘Jurassic Park’ jokes, it appears more people are now getting behind the project. It was recently announced that Colossal Biosciences received an additional $60 million in funding for their plan to bring the woolly mammoth back to the Arctic Tundra.

Colossal Biosciences was launched back in September when co-founder and CEO Ben Lamm teamed up with Harvard University geneticist George Church to bring back to woolly mammoth. The shocking plan initially received $15 million in seed funding, but has now received even more funding. The new $60 million in funding is led by billionaire investor Thomas Tull and San Francisco-based venture capital firm At One Ventures.

According to Dallas Morning News, other investors include Paris Hilton, Arch Ventures co-founder Robert Nelson, Ethereum blockchain co-founder Charles Hoskinson and a number of growth capital firms. “With the success of the launch we had, there was just tremendous excitement for what we’re doing, both from bringing back extinct species as well as building gestational technologies that can help other critically endangered species,” said Lamm. Hopefully they can find a way to domesticate the woolly mammoth while they’re at it.
