There are many great places to eat all throughout North Texas, but one restaurant in particular has caught the attention of “the Oscars of the food world.” Earlier this year, the James Beard Awards announced their nominees for the best restaurants and chefs in the country, and while DFW was well represented, only one local chef and restaurant remain as the finalists were recently announced. Now, DFW’s Roots Southern Table is up for the best new restaurant in the country award, with their chef up for best chef in Texas as well.
Ever since Roots Southern Table opened in Farmer’s Branch last summer, locals have been quickly falling in love with Chef Tiffany Derry’s cuisine. Now, that restaurant is being honored, as DFW’s only finalist for the 2022 James Beard Award. Along with Roots Southern Table, several other restaurants from Houston and Austin made the finals as well in a number of other categories.

As for the best chefs in Texas, Roots Southern Table’s chef and founder Tiffany Derry will compete against Christine Ha and Tony Nguyen from Xin Chao in Houston, Quy Hoang from Blood Bros. BBQ in Bellaire, Steve McHugh from Cured in San Antonio and Iliana de la Vega from El Naranjo in Austin. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Chicago on June 13, according to Dallas Culture Map. Hopefully soon DFW will have another award to brag about.
