Things have been going pretty good for Elon Musk since announcing his move to Texas. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Tesla and SpaceX founder had tied Bill Gates as the second richest man in the world. Now, thanks to a rise in his company stock, Musk has taken over the top spot, becoming the richest person in the world.
Musk reached the achievement on Thursday when Tesla’s stock price closed at $816.04. The increase moved Musk passed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who had been the richest man since 2017. Musk’s net worth now sits at $185 billion.
Hitting the number one spot on Forbes’ list closes out a very successful year for Musk, who began 2020 with a net worth of $27 billion, barely in the top 50. Musk celebrated the occasion with a tweet saying “Well, back to work.” Hopefully the billionaire doesn’t let his new position go to his head.
