There are many reasons many fans still consider Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ as the best in the franchise. Not only did the 1989 film have plenty of star power, with Michael Keaton playing Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker, but the film also included a soundtrack by Prince. Now, the franchise has paid homage to the late artist, as Prince makes a cameo appearance in a new comic based on the iconic movie.

Written by original ‘Batman’ screenwriter Sam Hamm, the new ‘Batman 89” comic continues a trend of DC Comics based on iconic movies. While usually comics lead to films, already DC has released ‘Batman '66, based on the classic Adam West TV show, and ‘Wonder Woman '77,’ modeled after the Lynda Carter series. Now Tim Burton’s Batman joins the list, and while fans were excited to see characters based off of their movie counterparts, the biggest surprise came from the Prince cameo in the first few pages.

In the comic, a Gotham newscaster interviews a trick or treater dressed as the Joker, though he resembles Prince’s look in the music video for the soundtrack, according to Entertainment Weekly. Many fans were excited to see Prince show up in the comic. Maybe this will even lead to a Prince super hero one day.
