Every year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gives fans a vote to help decide who makes the cut. While the fan voting doesn’t guarantee a spot in the Hall of Fame, it has become a favorite of music fans hoping to help their preferred band get honored. The voting for 2021’s class started this week, and thus far there is a surprise leader with afrobeat icon Fela Kuti topping the list.

The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2021 include many heavy hitters such as; Foo Fighters, Tina Turner, Iron Maiden, The Go-Go’s, Rage Against the Machine, and more. Yet, so far Fela Kuti is in the lead with 139,417 votes. In second place is Tina Turner with 108,645 votes followed by Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden and Carole King, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

There are still a few more weeks of fan voting before the results are finalized, so another artist could take the lead, but the early push for Kuti, who died in 1997, has helped his chances of getting in. The top five vote getters will receive the fan vote for the Hall of Fame induction. Hopefully this year, those that top the list don’t get snubbed.
