It has been quite some time since Texans have had a day without sweltering heat. With summer in full swing, 100 degree days have become the norm throughout the Lone Star state. Now, the Texas Tree Foundation is saying people should start watering their trees due to the extreme heat.
Usually when someone waters their lawn, they don’t think about giving their trees a good rinse. However, with temperatures remaining well above 100 degrees, the Texas Tree Foundation claims trees should be given priority over other landscape plants. According to Dallas Culture Map, a lawn can be re-established in a single season, while a tree cannot.
Some tips for watering trees include; giving water from the "dripline," water slowly and deeply and turn garden hose on a slow trickle and leave it in different zones within the dripline. "Trees provide an enormous asset to our landscape by reducing heating and cooling cost in our homes, cleaning the air we breathe, increasing our mental and physical health, decreasing storm water runoff, and many other benefits,” said Texas Trees Foundation’s Urban Forester Rachel McGregor. With these moves, all Texas trees should remain safe from the heat.
