There aren’t many things more frustrating than sitting in traffic. The sight of those orange and white construction barrels is enough to set any driver off, but luckily a group of TxDOT workers recently figured out a way to make those barrels a bit more appealing. The group used the barrels to create a massive snake sculpture as they hope the new road side attraction will help make sure drivers pay attention in work zones.
Drivers in El Paso were stunned recently when they noticed a massive snake sculpture went up on a roadside in the city. The sculpture is part of TxDOT’s new campaign to make sure drivers are paying attention to crews in work zones. According to NBC DFW, traffic deaths in Texas work zones spiked 33% last year, claiming the lives of 244 people.

Not only did traffic deaths spike, but crashes in construction and maintenance zones also rose to more than 26,000 last year. It is unknown if TxDOT plan to build more side of the road attractions throughout Texas as part of the campaign. Hopefully drivers don’t find the snake sculpture too distracting.
