Greenville Triumph to play match on ESPN2

The defending USL League One Champions will host a nationally televised contest from The Upstate

Greenville Triumph

In a release that came Wednesday afternoon, the Greenville Triumph made a major announcement to The Upstate: the soccer community has earned a nationally televised match to be seen by the entire country.

On Sunday, May 16th, the Triumph will host Union-Omaha, the team the Triumph were scheduled to play in the League One Championship Match last year before Omaha was forced to withdraw due to Covid-19 cases within their program. Greenville stayed atop the USL1+ table from wire-to-wire last year, and the decision was made to award to the title to the Triumph due to that fact, but a reunion with Union-Omaha to settle the matter was thought to be one of the most looked forward to matches of the 2021 season, and now it has even more reason to be a thriller.

That match will take place live on ESPN2, and televised nationally.

According to a press release from the Triumph, the match will the debut of an expanded USL linear television schedule that includes numerous USL matches on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes.

The 2021 League One schedule will kick off on Saturday, April 10th, and the Triumph will begin their quest to win back to back stars over the crest on April 24th, when they travel to Richmond to take on the Kickers, a team that just barely missed out of a title opportunity last year.

Greenville will then play their first home match back at Legacy Early College on Saturday, May 1st, at 7:00PM.
