Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum is calling what happened at the site of the Atlanta police training center Sunday night "a violent attack." According to Schierbaum while it may have started as a protest it turned into participants donning all black attire "armed with fireworks, rocks, molotov cocktails, and other devices." He says they "launched a criminal attack against officers."
Almost three dozen people were taken into custody and could face charges.

The project on the property in DeKalb County is opposed by activists who say the environment in the area should be preserved rather than cleared.
Previous protests have also resulted in arrests with a deadly shooting at the site in January.
Most of those involved in Sunday's unrest were reportedly not from Atlanta.
