Colossal Biosciences, the Dallas-based company behind the revival of the woolly mammoth and the direwolf has made another breakthrough in then resurrection of another long-extinct animal: the dodo bird.
According to WFAA, scientists at Colossal Biosciences have developed the primordial germ cell for a pigeon, a close relative to the dodo, which will help accelerate progress toward “dodo de-extinction and advance avian reproductive technology.”
Colossal CEO Ben Lamm says the dodo originated from pigeon-like ancestors and that his team's cultivation of the pigeon primordial germ cell was a pivotal step in reviving the dodo.
The bird is native to the island of Mauritius and was last spotted on Earth in 1662.
