Memorial Day weekend is over and that means pool season has officially begun. As the temperatures continue to rise, the best way to cool off in Texas is almost always by jumping in the water. However, a lifeguard shortage throughout the country has caused a number of DFW pool to cut their pool hours this season.

For months, public pools across the country have warned about a lifeguard shortage and with summer finally here many are starting to feel the effects. Public pools in Plano, Richardson, Arlington, and Mesquite have already modified there hours to deal with the shortage. Some pools have limited hours, while others have announced closing for entire days during the week.

“I guess it makes me feel good as a parent to know if they don't have the staff, they're not going to be open," said one Plano parent, but not everyone was on board with the cut schedule. According to CBS DFW, the city of Plano is still looking to hire 40 to 50 more lifeguards, with some cities looking for even more employees. Hopefully more lifeguards are on the way and pool season can go on without an issue.
