All summer, there were reports of catalytic converters being stolen from cars throughout DFW. However, now it appears thieves have another unexpected object they are targeting. Southlake DPS recently took to social media to warn the metroplex of a rise in pool vacuum and cleaner thefts in North Texas.

Many homes throughout DFW have recently reported their pool cleaner missing, as police are calling it the "new flavor of the week" for thieves. Pool cleaners are usually sold for anywhere between a few hundred dollars to $2,000 for certain expensive brands, according to NBC DFW. This has led to a rise in theft for the pricey product, as thieves try to take advantage of people wanting to keep their pools clean for the summer.

“We weren't really aware it was a thing until all of a sudden we see how many and how long this has been going on,” said Brad Uptmore, public information officer for Southlake police and fire. While they have already responded to eight reports of stolen pool cleaners so far this summer, Uptmore claimed Keller, Colleyville and Fort Worth have seen upticks as well. Hopefully this trend ends quickly, or else DFW will be full of green pools.
